May 6, 2015 By Technologies.org Leave a Comment

Google rolls out Bigtable, a cloud-based NoSQL database service, targeting business customer. Bigtable already powers Google’s Internet search, Google Maps, YouTube, and Gmail. The new product/service competes directly with Amazon’s DynamoDB. Since 2009 interest to non-relational database has been grown steadily (see Google Trends char below):

Market Research Media predicts that the global NoSQL market will reach $3.4 Billion in 2020, growiing at CAGR 21% in the period 2015 – 2020.

Many still believe don’t believe that NoSQL databases can play at same level as relational database because NoSQL database do not offer the same level of ACID (atomicity, consistency, isolation, durability) compliance as good old relational databases. New generation of NoSQL databases, known as NewSQL, addresses ACID issues. NewSQL has emerged as a paradigm that promises scalable performance of NoSQL systems for online transaction processing (OLTP) read-write workloads while still maintaining the ACID guarantees of a traditional database system. According to this NewSQL market research study the NewSQL market will surpass $5 billion in 2016 – 2021, growing at about 26% CAGR.
