SambaNova Unveils SN50 AI Chip, Secures $350M+ Funding, and Strikes Strategic Intel Partnership

SambaNova stepped firmly into the infrastructure spotlight today with the introduction of its new SN50 AI chip, a launch that feels less like a routine product announcement and more like a declaration about where AI is actually headed next. The company claims the SN50 delivers up to five times the maximum speed of competing accelerators, but the real emphasis isn’t raw benchmarks for bragging rights. The framing is about production, economics, and scale, the unglamorous parts of AI that start to matter once experiments turn into workloads that have to run all day, every day. Alongside the chip, SambaNova revealed a planned strategic collaboration with Intel and announced more than $350 million in new Series E funding, signaling that this is a long-term infrastructure play rather than a one-off hardware cycle.

The SN50 is positioned as a purpose-built engine for agentic AI, where multiple models interact, reason, and respond in near real time. According to SambaNova, enterprises deploying SN50 can achieve up to three times lower total cost of ownership, largely by pushing utilization higher and cutting latency where GPU-centric systems tend to stumble. Shipping to customers is planned for later this year, and the company is already talking in terms of data center-scale deployments rather than isolated accelerators. The chip delivers five times more compute per accelerator and four times more network bandwidth than the previous generation, linking up to 256 accelerators over a multi-terabyte-per-second interconnect. The practical outcome is faster time-to-first-token, larger batch sizes, and the ability to serve longer-context models without watching costs spiral out of control, which, honestly, is where many teams hit a wall today.

Rodrigo Liang, SambaNova’s co-founder and CEO, framed the moment bluntly, arguing that AI is no longer a race to build the biggest possible model but a competition to run intelligent agents instantly and profitably across entire data centers. That idea runs through the technical details as well. Built on SambaNova’s Reconfigurable Data Unit architecture, SN50 focuses on ultra-low latency for real-time applications like voice assistants, high concurrency to support thousands of simultaneous sessions, and a three-tier memory design that enables models exceeding ten trillion parameters and context lengths stretching into the tens of millions. It’s the sort of specification that sounds abstract until you map it to real workloads, where reasoning chains get longer and agent orchestration becomes the norm rather than the exception.

One of the more concrete signals of confidence comes from Japan, where SoftBank Corp. will be the first customer to deploy SN50 inside its next-generation AI data centers. The deployment is aimed at low-latency inference services for sovereign and enterprise customers across Asia-Pacific, supporting both open-source and proprietary frontier models. SoftBank executives describe the move as building an AI inference fabric that delivers GPU-class performance with better economics and tighter control, which is a telling phrase given how sensitive sovereignty and predictability have become in regional AI strategies. The deployment also deepens an existing relationship, with SoftBank already hosting SambaCloud for developers in the region, now anchoring future clusters directly on SN50.

The planned multi-year collaboration between SambaNova and Intel adds another layer to the story. The two companies intend to deliver high-performance, cost-efficient inference solutions as an alternative to GPU-dominated stacks, combining SambaNova’s full-stack AI systems with Intel’s CPUs, accelerators, networking, and memory. Intel also plans a strategic investment as part of the partnership, with joint efforts spanning AI cloud expansion on Intel Xeon-based infrastructure, integrated inference systems for reasoning and multimodal workloads, and coordinated go-to-market execution through Intel’s global channels. The ambition is explicit: shaping heterogeneous AI data centers where inference is optimized as a first-class workload, not an afterthought left over from training infrastructure.

From an industry perspective, the reaction underscores how the conversation is shifting. Analysts at IDC point out that SN50 changes the token economics of inference by delivering high throughput and performance within existing power envelopes and air-cooled environments, a detail that operators quietly obsess over. At the same time, investors are backing the thesis in a big way. The oversubscribed Series E round was led by Vista Equity Partners and Cambium Capital, with participation from Intel Capital and a broad mix of new and existing investors. Proceeds will go toward expanding SN50 production, scaling SambaCloud, and deepening enterprise software integrations, all the unflashy work required to turn silicon into an actual platform.

Taken together, the SN50 launch, the Intel collaboration, and the SoftBank deployment paint a consistent picture. AI is moving decisively from a software story into an infrastructure one, where latency budgets, power constraints, and cost-per-token decide winners more than headline model sizes. SambaNova is betting that agentic AI will live or die on those details, and with SN50, they’re making a clear case that inference, not training, is where the next phase of competition will be fought. It’s a bet that feels very 2026, a little less hype-driven, and much more grounded in the realities of running AI at scale.
