Teradata (NYSE: TDC), the big data analytics company, has just thrown its full weight behind Presto, the SQL-on-Hadoop framework. In its press release Teradata announced “a multi-year commitment to contribute to Presto’s open source development and provide the industry’s first commercial support. Based on a three-phase roadmap, Teradata’s contributions will be 100 percent open source under the Apache® license and will advance Presto’s modern code base, proven scalability, iterative querying, and the ability to query multiple data repositories”.
This announcement came about three weeks after Gartner posted a rather gloomy outlook on Hadoop. Yet, another Hadoop market research study sustains an opinion that the reports of Hadoop’s demise are greatly exaggerated.
