The latest 3D-printing medical applications brought together at IN(3D)USTRY

September 10, 2018 By admin Leave a Comment

3D-manufactured drugs, organ reconstruction and maxillofacial surgery, main applications

The third edition of the IN(3D)USTRY show will display some of the main 3D-printing applications in the medical sector, one of the most innovative sectors that uses this technology. The list of the exhibitors that will take part on this edition include Jessica Zeaske, director of GE Venture Healthcare, the investment fund of General Electric, Luis Álvarez, head of organ manufacturing at United Therapeutics, Dr. Jaedeok Yoo, researcher and founder of Aprecia Pharmaceuticals, a company specialised in the manufacture of 3D drugs, Dr. Jenny Chen, founder of 3DHeals, the world’s leading platform for innovation in the medical field, and Dr. Pedro Martínez Seijas, a pioneer in the use of 3D in Spain.

From 16 to 18 October, Pavilion 8 of Fira de Barcelona’s Montjuïc venue will host the third edition of the IN(3D)USTRY show, which will be a fantastic showcase for the main 3D printing applications in the industrial sector. The event is planned around a stage where speakers representing 5 sectors (automotive, aeronautics, retail, health and industry) will explain how they are implementing additive manufacturing in their production processes.

This year, since IN(3D)USTRY will be held at the same time as Healthio, the medical innovation exhibition also organised by Fira de Barcelona, the show will place particular emphasis on the medical sector. In this regard, we should highlight the participation of internationally renowned speakers such as Dr. Jaedeok Yoo, researcher and founder of Aprecia Pharmaceuticals, which has patented a system to manufacture pills using 3D printing, which allows the customisation of drug dosage in accordance with the specific needs of each patient, and the acceleration of its dissolution by improving its morphology.

The participants will also include Jessica Zeaske, investment director of GE Ventures Healthcare, General Electric’s health-related risk capital fund, which manages a portfolio of 75 companies with a large technological innovation component, as well as Luis Álvarez, head of organ manufacturing at United Therapeutics, one of the companies with the highest level of innovation in the race to produce human organs in the not-too-distant future.

Another leading speaker will be neuroradiologist Dr.Jenny Chen, founder and CEO of 3DHeals, a platform devoted to connecting the entire global healthcare 3D printing ecosystem by creating communities throughout the world, and Dr. Pedro Martínez Seijas, physician at the HM Vigo Hospital and a pioneer in the use of 3DP in Spain in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

The IN(3D)USTRY medical programme will be complemented by the participation of 12 Catalan hospitals, which will present 12 successful medical cases involving the application of 3D printing, together with several presentations introducing innovative projects based on additive manufacturing.

Barcelona Industry Week
IN(3D)USTRY is a part of the Barcelona Industry Week, a brand that also includes IoT Solutions World Congress (IOTSWC), an event on industrial Internet, and HEALTHIO, specialised in health and medical care technologies. All three events, which create synergies and provide a platform for commerce and knowledge in a wide range of industrial sectors, will take place from 16 to 18 October at Fira de Barcelona.
