Alibaba Cloud and MariaDB Announce the Launch of ApsaraDB RDS for MariaDB TX

September 19, 2018 By admin Leave a Comment

The Computing Conference 2018 – Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Alibaba Group, and MariaDB® Corporation, the company behind the world’s fastest growing open source database, today announced the general availability of ApsaraDB Relational Database Service (RDS) for MariaDB TX at The Computing Conference 2018 hosted by Alibaba.

With this partnership, the two companies will now offer enterprises direct support for MariaDB database deployments in the Alibaba Cloud and provide access to MariaDB’s most secure enterprise solution for transactional workloads. Alibaba Cloud customers will be able to enjoy the full benefits of MariaDB enterprise for their mission critical workloads with immediate access to essential patches, bug fixes and professional database support.

“Alibaba Cloud is dedicated to offer our customers the most advanced and affordable technologies that can be deployed easily to meet their enterprise-level demands. We are excited to work with MariaDB to offer this one-of-a-kind solution, ApsaraDB RDS for MariaDB TX, to our customers,” said Alibaba Cloud Product Director He Yunfei.

Alibaba’s ApsaraDB RDS for MariaDB TX offers unparalleled features and support, including advanced security and database proxy capabilities that address the most demanding enterprise requirements. This offering also fills a void with traditional public cloud providers who do not offer technical database support or engineering resources to solve customer problems. With Alibaba Cloud ApsaraDB RDS for MariaDB TX, customers can feel confident knowing there is a clear path to expert MariaDB support, including an escalation route to the engineering team that contributes the majority of the code to MariaDB.

“Alibaba Cloud has long been an active supporter of open source software,” said Max Mether, Vice President, Server Product Management, MariaDB Corporation. “This collaborative partnership not only fosters an environment that drives further innovation in MariaDB, it also ensures the latest and most advanced MariaDB features are available and supported in a leading public cloud deployment for the first time.”

The announcement represents a further expansion of the MariaDB and Alibaba Cloud collaboration. In November 2017, Alibaba Group led MariaDB’s Series C funding round. Previously, the two companies worked together closely to enhance features for products such as AliSQL, a cloud-friendly open source project that enables Alibaba’s code to work with MariaDB.

MariaDB frees companies from the costs, constraints and complexity of proprietary databases, enabling them to reinvest in what matters most – rapidly developing innovative, customer-facing applications. MariaDB uses pluggable, purpose-built storage engines to support workloads that previously required a variety of specialized databases. With complexity and constraints eliminated, enterprises can now depend on a single complete database for all their needs, whether on commodity hardware or their cloud of choice. Deployed in minutes for transactional or analytical use cases, MariaDB delivers unmatched operational agility without sacrificing key enterprise features including real ACID compliance and full SQL. Trusted by organizations such as Deutsche Bank, DBS Bank, Nasdaq, Red Hat, The Home Depot, ServiceNow and Verizon, MariaDB meets the same core requirements as proprietary databases at a fraction of the cost. No wonder it’s the fastest growing open source database. Real business relies on MariaDB™.
