The GSMA MWC Barcelona 2023, the largest and most influential connectivity event in the world, has opened its doors at the Fira Gran Via in Barcelona.
According to the GSMA’s annual Global Mobile Economy Report, 5G technology will surpass 4G by 2029 to become the dominant mobile technology, with over 85% adoption in the top 5G markets by 2030. The industry is set to achieve 1.5 billion connections in 2023, with global 5G connections exceeding five billion by the end of the decade. By 2030, 5G is expected to contribute nearly $1 trillion to the global economy, benefitting all sectors, with services (46%) and manufacturing (33%) sectors receiving the most value. The mobile sector’s economic contribution is expected to surpass $6 trillion by 2030. Operators predict that private wireless networks will account for up to 20% of their total enterprise revenues, driven by improvements in 5G capabilities. The momentum of the metaverse is also growing, with advancements in enabling technologies like 5G, AI, and wearables.
