SoftIron joins the founding board of the Ceph Foundation alongside industry giants to support and direct the future of Ceph

Silicon Valley-based enterprise storage startup, SoftIron, announced today that they are joining the founding board of the newly formed Ceph Foundation.

Alongside other industry heavyweights such as Red Hat, China Mobile and Canonical, SoftIron will play a pivotal role in the leadership and direction of the future development of Ceph, the leading open-source data storage platform that supports scalable object-, block- and file- level storage.

The Ceph Foundation is a directed fund project of The Linux Foundation, and under the leadership of Sage Weil, Ceph co-creator and chief architect at Red Hat for Ceph, the fund aims to raise, budget and spend funds in support of the Ceph open source project.

The formation of the fund is a long-awaited move for those in the industry who rely on the software and the appointment of SoftIron cements their position as a trusted and respected leader on the forefront of the technology, in a rapidly evolving arena of software-defined storage.

“We’re delighted to have SoftIron as a founding board member of the Ceph Foundation,” says Weil. “It is great to see creative and innovative hardware design to help operationalize storage and unleash Ceph’s potential, and we look forward to working with them to support and expand the Ceph community.”

“The opportunity to join the governing board is a validation of our leadership in purpose-built Ceph appliances,” says Tim Massey, CEO of SoftIron. “We are proud to be part of an incredible team dedicated to the constructive future of Ceph. In our opinion, Ceph is well on its way to becoming the de facto standard for storage at scale. We’re very excited and can’t wait to get started. The formation of the foundation is good news for all of us, and more importantly, our customers, and we can all look forward to a more strategic development path for Ceph which means greater innovation, stability, and support.”
