The Russian company Zenit announced its intention to release a new full-frame mirrorless digital camera in 2018 (original source in Russian). Digital camera market is extremely competitive and now more than ever, with a trend towards software defined digital camera. How exactly Zenit is going to compete against Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm and Sony? Well, it does not, says Sergeyev, the director of the Krasnogorsk Mechanical Plan:
“We plan to revive the direction of production of digital photographic equipment and consider the option of industrial cooperation, since competence on the component base in the country is currently absent.”
This mysterious phrase probably means both lack of the component base and competence to run a business as well.
“Sergeev also stressed that the Krasnogorsk plant does not set itself the task of competing with well-known manufacturers of photographic equipment.”
Russians have a long history of ignoring laws of market economy, with dire consequences for the national economy and population. Does it happen again?
