Telefónica certifies the Internet module of things NB-IoT of Quectel with subscription exchange capabilities

January 15, 2020 By admin Leave a Comment

Quectel Wireless Solutions, a leading global provider of Internet of Things (IoT) modules, has been collaborating with Telefónica, one of the world’s largest operators, recognized for its vision and execution capabilities in the IOT world.

As a result of the collaboration, Quectel has recently received certification by Telefónica of its BC95-G module with LTE Cat NB-IoT including Subscription Swap capabilities based on the GSMA V3.2 standard.

Subscription Swap capabilities will be especially useful in Smart Metering (electricity, water, gas …) and Smart Cities (waste management, parking, lighting, environmental monitoring …). As an example, Smart Metering devices can remain installed 10-15 years and in hard-to-reach locations. The cost of replacing subscriptions can be very high. The subscription swap capability will help simplify device deployment, administration and security management.

Norbert Muhrer , President and CSO of Quectel, commented that “after a close collaboration with Telefónica teams, our BC95-G module ensures its capabilities to operate in Telefónica’s NB-IoT network. Now customers can accelerate their IOT deployments throughout the world.”

BC95-G is a high-performance NB-IoT module that supports multiple frequency bands B1 / B3 / B8 / B5 / B20 / B28 * with extremely low consumption. Designed for applications with demanding size requirements, it provides a flexible and scalable platform for new NB-IoT use cases.

Telefónica is currently working on several Smartcities and Smartmetering projects in which it will deploy devices with this BC95G module.
