Tesla Valve: The Ingenious Fixed-Geometry Passive Check Valve

A Tesla valve is a sophisticated device designed by the renowned inventor Nikola Tesla in 1920. Unlike traditional valves that employ moving parts to regulate the flow of fluids, the Tesla valve operates entirely without any moving components. This fixed-geometry passive check valve leverages its unique design to control the direction of fluid flow through a series of interconnected channels.

The primary feature of the Tesla valve is its intricate internal structure. The valve consists of a sequence of teardrop-shaped loops and curved channels arranged in a specific pattern. When fluid flows in the intended direction, it passes through these channels with minimal resistance. However, when the fluid attempts to flow in the opposite direction, it encounters significant resistance due to the complex geometry. This resistance is created by the formation of turbulent eddies and flow recirculations within the valve, effectively hindering the reverse flow.
