Amazon Web Services (AWS) has officially launched its AWS Asia Pacific (Malaysia) Region, offering enhanced cloud services to customers across Malaysia and the Asia Pacific region. This new region allows local businesses, startups, and government entities to securely store data and run applications closer to home, thereby reducing latency and improving service quality.
AWS’s commitment to Malaysia is underscored by a planned investment of over $6.2 billion (approximately MYR 29.2 billion) through 2038, which is expected to contribute approximately $12.1 billion (MYR 57.3 billion) to Malaysia’s GDP and create more than 3,500 jobs annually. This investment also aligns with Malaysia’s vision to become a leader in digital innovation within the region.
With the new AWS Region, Malaysian companies like Bursa Malaysia, CelcomDigi, and PETRONAS can leverage advanced technologies, including AI and machine learning, to drive innovation and enhance their digital transformation efforts. The launch also supports Malaysia’s broader economic goals, such as those outlined in the New Industrial Master Plan 2030, by fostering a sustainable and inclusive digital economy.
AWS’s expansion into Malaysia is a testament to the growing demand for cloud services in Asia Pacific and reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to providing reliable, secure, and scalable cloud infrastructure worldwide. This new region will also support AWS’s global sustainability goals, offering customers in Malaysia access to some of the most energy-efficient cloud infrastructure available.
